Hygienic plastic pallets for rolls in food and pharma
A hygienic plastic pallet has closed runners and closed, washable surfaces, with no cavities where water, dust and residue can collect. For rolls of film, paper or laminate used in food and pharma packaging, ROLL offers the PPH1 in the H1 format 800 × 1200 mm, the PPH2 half pallet and roll cradle pallets in virgin HDPE such as LO01 and LO02. Why does an ordinary pallet cause trouble in a food audit?
Wood absorbs water, carries splinters and nails, and needs ISPM 15 paperwork for export. An open plastic pallet looks clean until it is turned over: ribs and cavities that washing does not reach. In a plant that handles film, paper or laminate for food packaging, the pallet is part of the hygiene chain, not only a base that carries weight.
What makes a plastic pallet hygienic?
- Closed runners. The PPH1 has closed runners with welded bases, no central prism and no rims.
- Washable closed surfaces. No exposed cavities.
- One piece, or sealed steel bars. No screws and no loose parts.
- Declared material. Material, recycling code and country of origin are published on each product page.

How do you keep the roll still on a hygienic pallet?
A flat hygienic pallet solves the base. It does not stop the roll from moving. Two options are published in the range: a roll cradle pallet where the cradle is part of the pallet (LO01, LO02), or a flat base with the CV01 cradle adapter locked on top (RCV08). The CV01 is made of virgin HDPE and isolates the roll from the surface below.

Are these pallets suitable for the food industry?
They are suitable for use in food-industry logistics; see the Food Contact page. Suitability for food contact use is stated there only for the references made of virgin HDPE, such as LO01, LO02, CV01 and RM01. The PPH1, PPH2 and PP08 base pallets are made of recycled material and are not declared as food contact compatible.
Can hygienic plastic pallets be washed?
Yes. The surfaces are closed and washable. Temperature and detergent limits are not published: ask for the specific model.
Which hygienic pallets can go on racking?
PPH1 is published as rack-compatible with 1000 kg and LO02 with 1800 kg. PPH2, PP08, RCV08 and LO01 are for floor or shelf use.
