ROLL Packaging declaration of no intentional use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) as functional components in the raw materials used to manufacture its products.
ROLL's role under REACH for PFAS substances
ROLL SNC di Pini Sergio & C. operates as a downstream user under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH). ROLL does not manufacture or import chemical substances; instead, ROLL purchases finished raw materials (polymers, paper, steel, additives) from upstream suppliers responsible for the registration and compliance of the substances they place on the EU market.
Compliance information regarding per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances is collected and verified by ROLL on the basis of declarations received from raw material suppliers, in accordance with the obligations applicable to downstream users.
No intentional use
ROLL declares that per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are not intentionally used as functional components in the raw materials employed in the manufacturing of ROLL products. This declaration is based on the technical specifications and the compliance documentation provided by ROLL's raw material suppliers.
Substance class definition
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large group of synthetic organic chemicals characterised by the presence of fully or partially fluorinated carbon chains. Within the European Union, individual PFAS substances are subject to specific regulatory provisions under REACH, including inclusion in the ECHA Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern where the relevant criteria are met.
Information from suppliers
ROLL collects, where applicable, PFAS-specific declarations from its raw material suppliers. The presence of any PFAS substance included in the ECHA Candidate List is monitored as part of ROLL's REACH compliance procedures. Should any such substance be present in a ROLL article above the 0.1% by weight (w/w) threshold set out in Article 33 of REACH, ROLL would communicate this information to its customers in accordance with the same article.
Recycled materials
For products manufactured from recycled materials, accidental traces of substances not intentionally added cannot be completely excluded due to the inherent variability of secondary raw material streams. Any such presence is considered consistent with the current state of recycling technology, with the applicable regulatory thresholds, and with the intended use of the products.
